Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those looked after by the authority and children of armed service personnel. The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate progress and raise attainment. In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received, how this is being used, and the impact of any work.

Pupil Premium Statement: Principles

St John the Evangelist RC Primary will ensure that:

  • teaching and learning opportunities will be targeted to meet the needs of all pupils to provide equity amongst pupils
  • the grant is used to best support vulnerable groups of children so that they achieve or exceed their potential
  • children's emotional, social and academic needs will be catered for in order for children to achieve their potential

In distributing the grant we also recognise that:

  •  not all children who are in receipt of Free School Meals are socially disadvantaged
  •  not all children who are socially disadvantaged are registered for school meals

As a result we reserve the right to allocate Pupil Premium to support any pupil or groups of pupil we feel are vulnerable in order to raise their levels of attainment so that their life chances improve.
